Presented by Dublin Dance Festival and the Abbey Theatre, Bastard Amber is a major new work by leading Irish choreographer, Liz Roche. Moving her rigorous exploration of the body into the realm of the soul, this enthralling piece is partly inspired by WB Yeats' seminal poem Sailing to Byzantium and the meditative golden paintings of the late Patrick Scott.

A profound journey into humankind's spiritual quest, Bastard Amber is filled with unforgettable imagery and stunning design, conjuring a lustrous Byzantine world of contradictory influences, a meeting place of East and West.

With a sublime international company of dancers performing alongside live musicians and featuring an original score, Bastard Amber promises to be a provocative and haunting experience.

This landmark production marks the first time that an Irish choreographer has been commissioned to create a dance work for the Abbey Theatre's main stage.

Co-commissioned by Dublin Dance Festival, the Abbey Theatre and Kilkenny Arts Festival with support from Yeats2015, Dublin City Council, The O'Reilly Theatre and Dance Ireland
